Science: The Power of a Fish - Instituto Juruá

Deep in the Brazilian Amazon, remote communities are leading one of conservation’s great comeback stories. The arapaima, the world’s largest scaled freshwater fish, reaching 3 metres and 200 kg, was pushed to the brink by commercial over-fishing. Today, villagers patrol lakes, monitor populations, and harvest sustainably. Instituto Juruá, co-founded by Frontiers Planet Prize International Champion Carlos Peres and his co-author João Vitor Campos-Silva, has been pivotal to this success. Read more here.
